  • @patrick_oshag: (Reposted by @patrick_oshag) @InvestLikeBest: Nubank serves 140 million customers with 10,000 employees versus competitors' 100 million with 100,000; CEO David Vélez says its cost to serve is about 3% of incumbents, leaving margin for no fees and better rates, and that is pre AI.
  • @StockSavvyShay: @StockSavvyShay argues $MELI is still trading near its 2021 highs even though revenue has grown to a roughly $40B annual run rate, while others chase stocks that already ran. With e-commerce only about 12% of Brazil's retail and financial services underserved, he thinks $MELI and $NU have years of growth ahead just by serving demand that already exists in Latin America.

Nubank serves 140 million customers with only 10,000 employees. Its competitors serve 100 million with 100,000. "Our competitors have 100 million customers with 100,000 employees and 6,000 branches. So our cost to serve a customer is about 3% of what a traditional incumbent bank is. That means we have so much margin to give back to the customer via no fees, better experience, better interest rates, and overall a better product. That's pre-AI. AI will be an additional multiplication on that efficiency...you could imagine banks that have a billion customers with 5,000 employees. That’s totally within sight." –– @velez_david

Everyone is chasing stocks that have already run while $MELI is still trading near its 2021 highs despite revenue growing to a ~$40B annual run rate. What also makes Latin America so interesting is consumers already have smartphones and spending power yet e-commerce in Brazil is still only ~12% of retail while financial services remain underserved. Thats why I think $MELI and $NU have years of growth ahead without needing to expand beyond Latin America because both are building the commerce and financial infrastructure for demand that already exists.

(Reposted by @StockSavvyShay) Fede says no branches alone does not explain $NU's efficiency ratio. The rest is technology and scale. AI handles 60% of support chats in Brazil at about a dollar a month per customer. Compares Itaú at 37 vs Nu at 19.5.

@patrick_oshag quotes Nubank's David Vélez: the world's ~190 currencies may shrink to 10 in 10 to 20 years given dire fiscal situations, and stablecoins could save the US dollar.

See original

David Vélez on why stablecoins could save the US dollar: "There are about 190 currencies around the world. My view is that in 10-20 years from now, those 190 will be 10. The fiscal situation in so many countries around the world is so dire that a lot of that fiat money is not real money. And so increasingly, billions of people are going to be banking on the offshore world, US stablecoin, but also Bitcoin and other type of assets. I think the US stablecoins ultimately will be the big savior or one of the biggest saviors of the US dollar, because it democratizes access to the US dollar. At least there is a lot of demand for the US stablecoin. There's very little for the Brazilian stablecoin, unfortunately."
